 The successful
visit of the District 7690 team resulted in District 3460's generous contribution
of an Ambassadorial Scholarship for a student from our district to study in Taichung.
The Rotary Foundation's alumni newsletter 'Reconnections'
(November 2007) described the experience and Rotary.org
carried this news release. A short article describing the
GSE experience by Phil Morris appears in the Zone
33 TRF Newsletter, August 2006. Lily Kuo, graduate of UNC-Chapel
Hill, won the District 3460 scholarship to study Mandarin. In 2007-2008 Lily studied
at Tunghai University in Taichung. Read
her final report to The Rotary Foundation. And since she completed her studies
at Tunghai Lily spent time in Beijing as a journalist . . .here
is an article which she wrote for the 'Asia Sentinal.'
Arrangements are made for Noopa Lin (District 3460) to have a Youth Exchange experience
in Greensboro in 2007-2008. * About "The Bridge" -
Several of the photos found their way to Rotary International, and this one reappeared
with the article in 'Reconnections,'
and in an advertisement promoting the 100th Rotary International Convention in
Birmingham in 'The Rotarian'
(October 2008, p.77). **About "Better Friendships"
- This photo also was sent to Rotary International. Several months later a member
of the RI staff was visiting Rotary International headquarters in Brazil and recognized
the image which had been used in a collage illustrating a
brochure about Rotary. Also growing out of this GSE experience
was a Friendship Exchange between 7690 and 3460: | |
