Rotary
District 7690 collects club bulletins for two reasons: 1. The club
bulletin is one of the best sources of a club's history. It provides a
contemporary account of club and its projects, problems and successes. The district
strives for a comprehensive collection of printed club bulletins
because that is the format that can most effectively be archived.2. For at least
40 years the district governor has held a club bulletin competition for
'best in district.' Each year a club bulletin award is presented to a club in
each of the following categories: | small
club - weekly | small club - monthly | | medium club - weekly | medium
club - monthly | | large club - weekly | large club - monthly |
Many
clubs distribute their club bulletin electronically. While this is the most economical
and effective way to circulate the club bulletin it is not yet the most efficient
way to archive the bulletin.
Assistant
Governor's Role I have asked your assistant governor to collect
a printed copy of each of your club's bulletins for judging and
subsequently for addition to the District 7690 Archives.
Although the judging will take place in February or March, we need a complete
file of your club bulletins so please continue to give them to your club's assistant
governor. If your club is mailing a printed copy of the club bulletin to Phil
Morris, he will include those in the collection for archiving and judging. Assistant
governors: Phil Morris, District Communications Officer, will be contacting you
early in 2011 to provide for collecting the bulletins you have receive from your
clubs.
About
the judging criteria We hope to ask Rotaractors to perform the judging duties
as has been done in the past. They will report their recommendations to the District
Governor. Here are points we ask them to take into consideration for judging:
- Does the bulletin contain an appropriate mix of information?
- Which
bulletin would you be inclined to read regularly?
- If you were not a Rotarian,
which bulletin would attract you to seek membership?
- Is the format consistent?
- Is
it rich in information?
- Are there too many details?
- Are there
photos?
Historically the governor will also include items they wish
to be considered and the governor is ultimately the final judge of winners. Thank
you for your cooperation. Terry Titus, 2011-2012 District Governor
