Subject - Summary & Contact

Alex Vispoli - Director of Media RelationsWinston-Salem Dash
" This is Alex Vispoli with the Winston-Salem Dash.  Baseball season is rapidly approaching and I am writing to inquire whether your Rotary Club would be interested in having someone from our organization come speak at a future meeting (if this e-mail is better suited for someone else, please let me know who I should contact or feel free to pass it along).  We would welcome the opportunity to talk about the upcoming baseball season, the All-Star Game we are hosting in June, and how we function as an organization.  I look forward to hearing back from you and possibly scheduling a visit.  Thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail and enjoy the rest of your day.

Thank you, Alex Vispoli - Director of Media Relations - Winston-Salem Dash - 926 Brookstown Avenue - Winston-Salem, NC 27101 - alex.vispoli@wsdash.com - 978.501.5510 (Cell) - 336.714.6874 (Direct) - 336.714.2288 (Fax) - www.wsdash.com

John Medwin, Tarheel Financial Services - "My name is John Medwin.
I am the founder of Tarheel Financial Services and I am a financial advisor that is most unique. I have yet to find an advisor with all of the specialized services that I offer. The best word I can use to describe what I offer is “amazing”. The services I employ are typically offered to only the extremely wealthy who usually pay top dollar for such financial strategies. I offer them as just another part of what I do.
I would like to be a program speaker at your club, because I believe that my topic about business and retirement will be of interest to Rotarians. I title my message: “Four Mind Blowing Financial Concepts”.
What makes my talk different is that it addresses the concerns that each one of us faces and I offer solutions that work and that few are aware of. I introduce your audience to products and services that few, if any, knew existed. The most effective solutions are usually specialized, and these are no different. I doubt that all 4 could be utilized by the same person, but if they were only able to apply one strategy, it would have powerful implications. And some could be implemented with the help of their current financial advisor if they so choose.
In many cases, it literally impacts the rest of their lives in a positive manner. The amazing thing is that for the average American a simple solution exists, although the solution is always different for everyone. Imagine flipping a switch, and looking forward to your financial future and retirement with confidence instead of uncertainty or worry.
I am looking forward to talking to you about being the program speaker at one of your meetings.
Please feel free to email me at medwining@yadtel.net or you can call me directly at 866-612-6848. Thank you. Warmest Regards, John Medwin"

Ashley Memory, author: promoting her novel - "My name is Ashley Memory, and I live in Pittsboro. I recently completed my first novel, and I'm in search of area civic groups that might be interested (and kind enough) to allow me to speak to them about the book. I'm a native of Asheboro and I recently spoke to the Asheboro Rotary Club, so I thought I might reach out to clubs within your district.

"Naked and Hungry is the story of a man who tries to simplify his life by moving to a one-room cabin the woods, where he encounters a potential environmental disaster. It's a darkly humorous suspense novel that's set in the Piedmont. Justin Catanoso, author of My Cousin the Saint and executive editor of The Triad Business Journal, who reviewed the book wrote: "In Naked and Hungry, Ashley Memory has written an entertaining and twisting first novel with a storyline pulled from today's headlines. Bank loans gone bad, pollution for profit, unchecked law enforcement, reluctant heroes. With shades of Richard Russo, Memory's characters are quirky and funny and often a little dangerous. And her sense of place -- small town North Carolina -- is vividly rendered." For more reviews and more about me, please see http://ashley-memory.com/naked-and-hungry/

"During the meeting, I'll happily read a short excerpt from the book and answer any questions. My novel has comic overtones but addresses serious themes such as the economic crisis and environmental issues that threaten small towns. I think it would inspire a thought-provoking conversation among your members. If you're not the correct person to contact, please accept my apologies, and I hope you might be kind enough to forward this along to your program directors or others you might know.Ashley T. Memory

Federal regulation concerning lead based paint: Ron Fields is a NC and EPA approved instructor for the recently enacted Federal regulation concerning lead based paint as it relates to homes built before 1978. This is an extremely comprehensive piece of legislation that effects over 1 million people in NC alone, involved in renovation, repair and painting of pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities. Approximately 67% of the homes in Guilford county fall under this regulation. Nothing is being sold here, it is about making the public aware of the new requirements imposed on a national basis. He has about a 20 minute power point presentation with time left for questions that he would like to offer to clubs looking for programs for their meetings. If you have additional questions, please visit www.rrp-lead-nc.com or call him at the numbers indicated below. We have recently started offering this required training through GTCC and FTCC in addition to our training facilities in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.Thank you for making this available to your club presidents and club program chairman.Sincerely,

Super Trend Convergence: How the convergence of 3 major trends will change our careers, our investments, and our lives. The 3 Super Trend areas are, 1) Globalization (China/India and the emerging markets are the megatrend under the super trend), 2) Technology Accelerators (being used extensively by Fortune 500 companies and in health care and energy - science fiction is becoming science fact) and 3) the Global Age Wave (Baby boomers, the echo boom and overseas age demographics). Any one of these super trends will significantly change the world in the next 5-10 years, and the convergence of the 3 will create massive change, and both threats and opportunities. What the "new normal" looks like coming out of this recession will be massively influenced by these super trends. Dennis Stearns, winner of the 2008 Business Leader Triad Entrepreneur of the Year award, has been called "one of the financial planning industry's leading futurists" by the Financial Planning Association.

A Humorous Guide to Caregiving - Jim Calhoun has personally experienced the challenges caregivers face and he has collected these challenges and insights for how to overcome them in his book “Lessons from the Ancients, a Humorously Helpful Guide for Caregiving”. He would never have guessed during his college days that his interest in psychology and English would prepare him for the caregiving role and for writing a book. The book was written with the hope of providing other caregivers resources for assistance as well as inspiration. Jim lives in Atlanta, but is frequently in the Triad area. PDG David McCoy will be happy to try work with club program chairs in arranging for Jim to speak. You should plan ahead for this one.8/9/2009

Serving Greensboro's underserved population - If you liked the movie Freedom Writers, you will love this program. The Glenwood area of Greensboro had one of the highest crime rates in town. Marshall Benbow and his wife moved their family into the community and started an after school tutoring program by walking door to door and handing out flyers to the neighborhood kids. Within a year, they have engaged over 100 kids, with one adult volunteer mentor per child. School performance has improved and now a summer camp is being offered that gives kids a chance to experience things they could not get in Glenwood -- mountains, beach, museums, etc...
