Triad Flight of Honor -
[July 1, 2010]
Since October 3, 2009 there have been
three flights in the Triad Flight of Honor program. On
each flight one hundred (100) World War II veterans
boarded a US Airways chartered flight from Greensboro
to Washington, DC for a one-day trip to visit the WW
II Memorial and other interesting sites. Regretfully,
our country is losing nearly 1,500 WW II veterans each
day and this is a tremendous way to show tribute and
thanks for their service and sacrifice. Priority will
be given to veterans whohave never seen the WW II Memorial
and who otherwise would not be able to go due to financial
and/or physical limitations.
Three more flights are scheduled. Click here for details

District Conference Committee,
I know I speak for Mike and Marlee
when I say thank you to all of our committee for the
fantastic job that you did to make our District Conference
the success it was. I am happy to report that 99%
of the feed back that I have received has been positive
and it is a tribute to all of you that worked so hard
to make it so. One of the goals of the conference
was to uplift and inspire our fellow Rotarians and
to send that back in to their own clubs motivated
to share the energy of the conference, and this I
feel sure we accomplished. You are a great bunch folks
and I feel honored to share the success of the conference
with you and the ripple effect that it will ultimately
create in the world. We will be sending out a survey
to all attendees and I would ask that each of you
be sure to share your feed back as well. Thank you
again for all that you did (much of it we will never
know) to make it a Conference one to remember.

Its
time to register for the Rotary Leadership Institute
(RLI). RLI is a fast-paced, interactive, one-day program
focused on Rotary Leadership. The classes are fun, topical,
interactive, and geared toward busy business and professional
persons who want to be more effective leaders in their
vocation and club and more knowledgeable Rotarians.
Club Presidents are encouraged to select at least two
candidates for RLI annually. Students return to their
club with enthusiasm, new contacts, fresh ideas, an
increased understanding of their potential as Rotarians,
and they bring valuable skills impacting their potential
leadership in the club.

Brothers'
Breakfast
Since
December 2004 District 7690 governors, past governors
and governors-to-be have met each Tuesday at Brothers'
Breakfast to discuss Rotary matters and to share a wonderful
fellowship. The 'Brothers' were PDG Don Allred's father
and uncles, who encouraged the governors to join them
each week. At the first Rotary Brother's Breakfast there
were three Allred brothers and one cousin - and two
governors. In early 2005 brother Aaron passed away.
On September 18, 2009 brother Boyd followed. Now again
on October 12, with great sorrow we learned that we
lost our last brother, Don's dad, Howard. On the Rotary
side, now there are approximately eight "Rotary
Governors" who mourn the loss of the Brothers.
Howard was an extraordinary minister. The memory that
I shall always carry of Howard is that when called upon
to pray, it was obvious that he was talking to his best
friend. We will miss Howard as we miss all the Allred
brothers. But with luck Brother's Breakfast will continue.

Golfing Fellowship Wins Polio Praise
The
Third Annual Ray Taylor District 7690 Golf Tournament
scored well with our district's Polio Challenge effort,
earning more than $1100 from the generous contributions
of brave young golfers shooting at a very small target.
This
year's event was played on the beautiful West Course
of the Grandover Resort. It was the second time the
Golfing Fellowships tournament had been held at Grandover.
There were 120 players organized under the direction
of PDG Don Allred and TRF Chairman Patrick Eakes who
have been providing excellent leadership for a number
of years. As usual, their efforts were ably assisted
by Pat Allred who organized the $10 booth at the 5th
hole where all the money was raised. This year a use
was found for the namesake, Ray Taylor, who was able
to supplement Pat's cajoling and his wife, Betty filled
the divots after the players left the tee.
Closest

Team Low Net: Furnitureland, Midstate, Pinehurst
Team Low Gross: Crescent (who else?), Guilford, Midstate
